Monthly subscription boxes have gotten pretty popular; so popular that just about anything you can think of, you can have delivered automatically to your door every month. The outdoor industry caught on and there are now several hunting and fishing related boxes to select from, including HuntVault (originally called Hunter’s Crate).
After learning about HuntVault on Instagram, I signed up for a 3-month subscription in December 2015 as a Christmas gift for myself and my partner John. I thought it would be a good way to try some new items and brands that we normally wouldn’t buy. When it arrived, I was pleasantly surprised at the variety of items included, such as an Outdoor Edge knife, Head Country seasoning and marinade, and a Hoo-rag face mask.
What Is HuntVault?
HuntVault is a monthly subscription box focused on hunting. There are two box options to select from: Original and ELITE. The Original box is valued at $60-$100 per month and is themed to the current season; this box includes a variety of items such as tools, game calls, safety gear and other smaller items. The ELITE box, introduced in 2017, is valued between $225-$400 and may include items such as optics, packs, cameras, and high-priced hunting tools.
How Much Is It?
HuntVault offers multiple pricing options:
The Original box is available month-to-month or in several subscription options. The individual box prices are lower when you select a longer subscription term.
Month-to-month: $40 per month
3-month subscription: $115
6-month subscription: $225
12-month subscription: $420
The ELITE box is currently only available month-to-month and is $160 per month.
The Pros:
I’ve now been a subscriber for 2 years, so clearly, I’m a happy customer! Each month I receive my box, I continue to be surprised at the quality and value of the items included. I love that the boxes are themed, and offer products that can be used immediately. Past themes have included: Steel, Harvest, Woods & Water, Adventure, Survival and Pursuit.
While HuntVault is targeted to hunters, and has included hunting-related items such as tree stand straps and safety lines, tree stand bow hangers, game calls (turkey calls, deer grunts, duck calls), gun straps, game bags, and many other items, many of the products can be used every day. Below are my top 10 favorite items, most of which I use for much more than hunting!
YETI 20oz tumbler
Vortex beanie
OnXMaps subscription
Badlands binocular harness
Outdoor Edge Razor-Lite knife
Outdoor Edge Swingblade knife
Pro-Shot Products Splattershot targets
12 Survivors Ignite headlamp
Wewool socks
Skull Hooker mounting bracket
And while the products are great, one of the things I love the most about HuntVault is the customer service. Simply put, it’s excellent. HuntVault truly cares about their customers. In fall 2016, HuntVault posted a preview of the October box on Instagram and I commented that I would not be able to get mine until I returned from my Idaho elk hunt. They messaged me and asked if there was any place I could receive a package…and sent me a special hunt camp care package with several packs of coffee, LokSak bags, a game skinning knife, face paint and a handwritten note wishing me luck on my hunt. Service like this is hard to find, and definitely hard to beat.
The Cons:
While I love HuntVault, the only con is that many of the boxes have contained knifes or other similar tools. Fortunately, John and I have been able to use everything and love having a variety of tools for different uses, but other people may not have a need. I use several of the knifes and John uses others, we’ve given some as gifts and keep some in our camping supplies.
Overall, I am very happy with HuntVault and would definitely recommend it to anyone interested in trying new hunting and outdoor products. You can order online at www.huntvault.com.
