As an avid archery deer hunter, scent control is one of my top priorities, not just while in the tree stand or ground blind, but during the walk in and out as well. Oftentimes I have a pretty long walk to and from my stand, and it’s not all on flat ground either. Being from the Ozarks, there can be quite a few steep hills, depending on where I’m hunting. Needless to say, it’s pretty easy to work up a sweat and I often feel that my scent free shower or bath I take beforehand is just a waste of time.
Thankfully a company called Klean Freak launched on October 1st and they make a variety of pre-moistened body wipes that are individually wrapped, which makes them easy to carry with you when you’re on-the-go. I had the opportunity to try them out before their launch and I’m excited to share my experience with you.
If any of you follow me on my personal Instagram account @andi_crider , then you may already know that I broke my leg two days into the Missouri archery deer season. Unfortunately, that means that I haven’t been able to go deer hunting yet this season, however, I did get to try out the Klean Freak Body Wipes during Dove Season, prior to my injury. And due to my broken leg, I found another great use for the body wipes, aside from hunting purposes, which is how I originally intended to use them.
During Dove Season I used the Klean Freak Body Wipes to freshen up in between our morning and evening hunts, and then would shower at night once we were done hunting for the day. There are four different scents available: Tea Tree, Coconut, Lavender, and Scent-Free.
They all smell great - aside from the Scent-Free one, of course – and all left me feeling and smelling fresh and clean. Initially I was worried that they were going to leave me feeling a little sticky, but I found that you need to give them just a little time to dry, or just get a towel and wipe down afterwards and that was no issue. I admit, I was surprised at how well the wipes worked as far as getting myself clean. I would come in from my hunts with dirt, blood, gun oil or grease, etc. and just one body wipe cleaned all of that off, no problem.
Once I broke my leg, I found that it was extremely hard to get in and out of the bathtub. I was originally in a temporary leg cast up to my knee for the first few days, and I was not allowed to get it wet. After the three days, I saw an Orthopedic doctor who put me in a boot instead, but said that I still had to use my crutches to get around until I was able to walk in the boot without my leg hurting. So, for about two weeks I had to get around using my crutches.
During those two weeks, I found that the Klean Freak Body Wipes were a life-saver! They were so much more convenient for me to use, rather than trying to get in and out of the shower every day and worry about hurting my leg further. You just tear open the individually wrapped wipe at the edges, wipe down and go. So. Much. Easier. for a girl with a broken leg!
Needless to say, even though I didn’t get to use the Klean Freak Body Wipes for deer hunting like I originally intended, my experience with them was still a great one. The wipes cleanse, deodorize and minimize bacteria – which is where human odor comes from – so I have no doubt that the scent-free wipes will be great to use while hunting deer and other big game.
