Gator Bites Recipe

Have you ever tried gator? During a recent gator and hog hunting trip to Florida, team member Cara Thompson was able to harvest 2 gators with her bow.

"I was excited to get back home and fry up some gator bites. It's such a rewarding feeling when you shoot something for the first time, cook it and share it with family and great friends."

Ingredients

  • 1 lb gator cut into 1-1/2 inch sections

  • 1-1/2 cups flour

  • 1 TBSP Olive Oil

  • 1 Egg

  • 1 Cup Beer

  • 1 tsp Garlic Powder

Directions

Heat up deep fryer.

Lay the gator sections out on a cutting board and use a meat hammer to tenderize each piece on both sides. It will flatten out. This is ok.

Next combine flour, oil, egg, beer and garlic powder.  Mix until batter is smooth.

Take your gator sections after they are tenderized and season with salt, pepper and your favorite seasoning.

When the oil is hot, take each gator section and dip into the batter until covered.  Then put into the fryer.  Fry until the gator floats or is golden brown.  Do not over cook.

Eat and enjoy.  You can use barbecue sauce, ranch dressing or tartar sauce as a dipping sauce.
