Tessa Nyhus
Wisconsin
My name is Tessa Nyhus and I am a born and raised Wisconsin girl. Growing up, I was exposed to the hunting world by my father and brother, but never really felt invited into it. I learned to believe that hunting just “wasn’t for me” and never gave it much thought.

Fast forward a bunch of years and I met my now husband in 2018. I learned very quickly that he lived and breathed hunting and the outdoors, so it wasn’t long before I was also enamored with being involved and learning about the absolute excitement that comes with it. I officially started hunting at the age of 35 and it has quickly become a passion and something our family enjoys together. I have had successes with whitetail deer and wild turkeys and was also fortunate to harvest a Wyoming antelope after only my first year as a licensed hunter.

With this new sport as a huge part of our family came learning methods for processing and preserving our harvests. The timing was excellent as the pandemic was taking over the world and groceries were becoming scarce or insanely expensive. It was my first glimpse into the importance of self-sufficiency, and we are always so proud and grateful for what the land and its animals provide for us.

Outside of hunting, I enjoy fishing and hiking, gardening and foraging, and just about anything that can be done outside when I’m not working. I have started making my own tallow products from our deer scraps and often can be found searching for wild plants and herbs to make tinctures and oils for natural wellness products.
